The Impressionist

Life is not a perfect
painting of people
posing in the ultimate
play of pretty.
It is blurred
moments of Monet’s
brief touches of brush
with paint on canvas
that reflect a moment
impressed only with what we
saw a second ago.
It is impossible to
press now in a frame,
for as soon as now touches air
it becomes then,
so paint your thens-
but your brush with now
only flows as smoothly
as the amount of paint
you apply to your present.
